OAK & ROSE SCHOOL FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD offers curriculum-based care for children ages 6 weeks old to 5 years of age. We envision a learning community that supports experiential learning, creative expression, outdoor adventure, and a garden and food program children can participate in. Above all, we aim to co-create a space based on community and respect.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is expressed through the way we structure our day, interact and communicate with children, and the values we hope to instill through daily routines. As early childhood teachers, our role is to function as guides. Our goal is to offer the children we work with the opportunity to discover their interests, learn self-expression, and understand the importance of being grounded in the natural world. This philosophy is cultivated through our combined 28 years experience in early childhood education.

PRINCIPLES WE BELIEVE WILL HELP CHILDREN THRIVE

  • Speak to and interact with children in a respectful and positive manner

  • Support children in identifying and expressing emotions, and working towards resiliency

  • Place an importance on learning to care for ourselves and each other

  • Build a strong community among families, friends, and teachers

  • Provide the structure of daily routines and the opportunity for flexibility

  • Create an environment that encourages exploration, and imaginative play

  • Give kids the opportunity to express themselves through art, music, and all creative expression

  • Offer a range of learning experiences including independent and cooperative activities, exploration of the physical and natural world, with an emphasis on play based learning

  • Provide snacks and meals based on a philosophy of whole foods nutrition, following seasonal eating patterns by providing 90% of produce grown in the NW region

  • Allow and encourage kids to participate in all food cycles (growing, harvesting, preparing, eating)

  • Make children's well being our main priority, treating each child as an individual

  • Teach kindness and compassion to all children, and model this way of interacting.

CREATING COMMUNITY

*While we are currently taking pause from our meet-ups, it is an important aspect to our philosophy and we look forward to returning to the mindset and activities listed below:

At Oak & Rose we strive to build a close-knit community. We believe there is much to be learned through shared experiences and therefore create opportunities for families and caretakers to share time. We also want families from both houses to come together regularly.

Some Annual Events Include:

  • September Farmers Market meet-up on a Sunday morning

  • Old Friends’N’Tines February Friendship gathering with past and present students

  • Oak & Rose Halloween Costume Party

  • Pre-School Summer Graduation Ceremony

  • Cherry-Picking in July on Mount Hood

  • Pre-School Graduation Ceremony
